3 out of 4 Orang Asli co-operations are in the agriculture industry
The Orang Asli community in Malaysia is often associated with poverty. Thus, one of the efforts to curb the problem is through co-operation business model.
It was reported that there are 13,884 Orang Asli participated in the business initiative, producing a total of 88 co-operations. Undoubtedly, majority of them are located in Pahang as it is the state with the highest population of Orang Asli.
Despite having a high amount of Orang Asli in Kuala Lumpur (1,417 people), the federal territory only consists of 1 co-operation. But within the proximity, Selangor has 4 co-operations with 481 participants. The co-operation in Kuala Lumpur only conduct business in consumer goods, while co-operations in Selangor are involve in both agriculture and servicing.
Overall, majority of the Orang Asli co-operations are in agriculture industry at 66 co-operations. This means 3 out of 4 Orang Asli co-operations are conducting agriculture business.
Interestingly, there is one construction co-operation established in Pahang but there are zero registered participants. Maybe the co-operation has just been established at that time. Did Orang Asli join the co-operation program later in 2018 or 2019?
