Ahmad Maslan’s ‘kahwin dua’ statement contributed to PAU 2019’s media popularity

UMNO held its 2019 UMNO General Assembly (Perhimpunan Agung UMNO 2019) on December 4. It was the second general assembly organised by the party as the opposition.

It was a four-day event, starting from December 4 and ending on December 7.

The event opened with the simultaneous general assembly of the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings, officiated by UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The leaders from the respective three wings, Datuk Noraini Ahmad, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan were also present.

It was reported that the 2019 UMNO General Assembly appeared to be more cheerful and enthusiastic compared to last year, just after Barisan Nasional (BN) was defeated for the first time in six decades during the 14th general election on May 9.

As observed in the news exposure graph of ‘PAU 2019’, the event saw a spike in popularity on December 5. Various topics were discussed with leaders reminding the crowd that UMNO can’t merely depend on the weaknesses and failures of Pakatan Harapan (PH).

‘Unity’ was the main feature in their speeches which further propagated UMNO’s idea of ‘Muafakat Nasional’.

Playing on the same sentiment in his speech was UMNO’s supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan who caught the attention of the media.

In his speech, the former Deputy Finance Minister told the delegates who attended the Youth conference to marry the daughters of PAS supporters in order to strengthen the ‘Muafakat Nasional’ political partnership between the two former political enemies UMNO and PAS.

He was heard telling the youth delegates who are single to find a wife among the daughters of PAS supporters.

Ahmad Maslan did not leave out the married men, however. He also urged them to start looking for a second wife from Muslimat PAS, the women division of the Islamic party.
