British actor cut business ties with Mahathir’s son

English actor Benedict Cumberbatch has severed his business ties with Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, son of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The actor allegedly wanted to discontinue their business relationship because of what Tun Mahathir said in an interview with the BBC last October. Tun M criticised Jews, saying that they’re “hooked-nose”, like how the Malays being called fat-nosed.

Furthermore, Mahathir added that he speaks the truth and owned up to the title of being called an anti-Semitic. He finished it off saying the Jews are overly sensitive and privileged people that caused the war in the Middle East.

Tun M’s actions above caused media outlets to react and take aim at him, which drew the attention of Benedict Cumberbatch.

Mokhzani Mahathir met Benedict during the latter’s visit to Malaysia in 2014 for the Laureus World Sports Event. Then, the actor invited Mokhzani to invest RM5.4 million into his own UK-based production company, SunnyMarch Holdings.

“As a company, we have already begun the process of fully severing our relationship with Mr Mahathir so that he will no longer be involved with SunnyMarch.” – Benedict Cumberbatch from DailyMail

In the midst of this, pro-Palestine peace activist Alex Awad asked Malaysia to stand firm on their stance against Israel. Alex claimed that the decision was a surprising one and that it lacked justice, calling out the actor’s decision as unfair and wrong to punish Mokhzani for what his father said.

Other than Alex, very few netizens were aware of the professional relationship between Benedict and Mokhzani.
