Jho Low resurfaces

On the fourth day (April 17) of former PM Dato’ Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s SRC trial, the alleged mastermind behind 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal Low Taek Jho or commonly known as Jho Low was finally brought up in favor of Najib’s defence team.

Jho Low’s media exposure was high on April 15 when Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed that ECRL talks with China did not involve the issue of Jho Low.

His name was mentioned again on April 18.

During defence counsel Harvinderjit Singh’s cross-examination of the fourth witness Ahmad Farhan Sharifuddin from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Harvinderjit requested for documents seized during Ambank raid in 2015 to be submitted as evidence.

When argued on its relevance to the trial by deputy public prosecutor Datuk V. Sithambaram, Harvinderjit brought up a report published by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and excerpts from “Billion Dollar Whale” book detailing alleged conversations between Jho Low and Joanna (Najib’s relationship manager at Ambank).

The conversations included ways to conceal information concerning Najib’s account and therefore the documents requested are crucial to prove Najib’s innocence.

As can be seen above, top issues surrounding Jho Low within the past week include ‘Najib Trial’ and ‘Name Brought up for the First Time’.

Najib’s defence team might have hit the jackpot by portraying Najib as the victim of Jho Low’s conspiracy and subsequently throwing Jho Low under the bus.

After the fifth day of hearing yesterday (April 18), the court will resume on Monday.
