Media exposure of Sahruddin Jamal

On April 14, Bukit Kepong state assemblymen Datuk Sahruddin Jamal was appointed as the new Menteri Besar of Johor following Datuk Osman Sapian’s resignation.

Undoubtedly, Sahruddin’s appointment received a huge attention from the media. Hence, his media exposure peaked in April, where he appeared in over 600 articles.

It is also noticeable that the Johor MB’s media exposure surged a month prior to his appointment. This is because he was heavily speculated by the media to be Osman’s successor in March.

However, Sahruddin’s media exposure started to decline in the months after his appointment. Yet, he has been more active in the media after his appointment compared to before. Besides, his exposure was consistent from May to August, appearing in about 200 articles each month.

Focusing on Sahruddin’s top issues in August, he was active in handling issues mainly pertaining to Johor.

He addressed the aftermath of the Pasir Gudang pollution, promote Visit Johor Year 2020, and launched the 20th Malaysian Games (SUKMA XX) logo as Johor will be the host of the sporting competition next year.

Additionally, he backed Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad with regard to the Khat syllabus issue. He also revealed that the SUKMA XX logo was inspired by Jawi writing.

In overall, Sahruddin continues to carry out his duties as the state leader despite his media presence not being as high as in the months when he was speculated and later appointed as the Menteri Besar of Johor.
