SRC trial day 20: Najib was shocked and upset

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was shocked and upset when he found out that RM42 million was transferred into his private accounts.

This is according to the testimony made by Ihsan Perdana’s managing director, Datuk Dr Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman during the 20th day of the SRC trial.

Shamsul added that Najib’s reaction when he found out about the RM42 million was genuine and affirmed that it is not an act.

Additionally, former Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) chief executive officer Datuk Azian Mohd Noh also testified on the same day.

Azian confirmed her meeting with Najib’s former private secretary, the late Datuk Azlin Alias, at a hotel in KL Sentral to discuss on the loan sought by SRC International. According to her, the meeting took place sometime in June 2011.

Two loans were approved by KWAP to SRC International; RM2 billion on 26 August 2011 and another RM2 billion on 27 March 2012.

Based on the dependency, KWAP media trend is similar to SRC International in May 2019 due to the loans.

However, the 1MDB scandal remains more prominent in the media compared to the one pertaining to SRC International.

Despite 1MDB trial has yet to commence (set to begin on August 19), there are more happenings on the scandal compared to the SRC trial in May.

For example, Attorney-General Tommy Thomas revealed that the government retrieved RM1.3 billion from 1MDB assets, former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng pleaded not guilty at a United States federal court and Kuala Lumpur office of audit firm Deloitte was raided by the police for 1MDB-related documents, among others.

From the build-up, 1MDB trial will be much bigger than the SRC trial. Hopefully, there won’t be any more delays on the 1MDB trial as it has already been postponed twice.
