Twitter users responded to Da Ma Cai sponsored trip

On February 10, Sarawak Report published an article stating that inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun and his team of senior officers spent RM312,441 on business class flights and five-star accommodation during their study tour at Istanbul.

 

Following, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that he approved the Istanbul tour. He added that the trip was organized to learn on how to combat against online gambling.

 

A day later, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng revealed that the trip was sponsored by a local gambling company, Da Ma Cai.

 

Subsequently, negative criticisms were launched against the government after Lim’s revelation.

Focusing on the feedback in Twitter related to the topic of “Da Ma Cai”, the network of the topic can be separated into four clusters. Yet, the clusters are closely connected.

 

The biggest cluster is the pink group, consist of influencers @khairykj, @tapaimalaya, @fadzmel and @boosulyn. The influencers in this group mostly shared the news on Lim’s revelation about Da Ma Cai’s sponsorship. People in this cluster has also been questioning on why a gambling company is sponsoring the cops on an anti-gambling trip.

 

Next is the green cluster, which responded to the sponsorship. The cluster argue that accepting sponsorship from a gambling company is haram. Thus, they responded negatively to the paid trip.

 

Whereas, the blue group voiced out their frustration towards Pakatan Harapan government. Their argument is that Pakatan Harapan previously condemned Najib Razak for using the 1MDB fund to conduct his Hajj but using gambling money for Instanbul trip is considered “Halal”.

 

On the other hand, the orange group is seeking for the amount sponsored by Da Ma Cai for the PDRM study tour as it was not officially revealed.
