What’s the hype on GSC’s Facebook page in October?

In October 2019, Golden Screen Cinema’s Facebook page (@GSCinemas) received the most comments on Wednesday.

Higher number of comments was also recorded on Thursday, but the posting trend of the Facebook page indicates that postings were well scattered throughout the days of the week.

In a glance, one could speculate that @GSCinemas received higher traction on Wednesday and Thursday due to the screening of new movies.

New movies are released on the night of Wednesday which would end on Thursday midnight. Therefore, more comments were made on the GSC’s Facebook page.

However, that is not the case upon further inspection. @GSCinemas did not received high number of comments on every Wednesday and Thursday.

Instead, the page only gathered a tremendous amount of comments on October 2 (Wednesday), with over 10k comments.

On the very next day (October 3), @GSCinemas still received higher number of comments, about 5k comments, before gradually declined on the following days.

Looking at the comments received by @GSCinemas on its peak days, the issues discussed were mostly about the upcoming film, Birds of Prey.

On October 2, the first trailer for Birds of Prey was released along with the release of Joker standalone film.

It will be the sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad, hence the trending keywords of ‘harley quinn’ and ‘suicide squad’.

In addition, Margot Robbie and Ewan McGregor who will be starring in Birds of Prey were mentioned in comments on @GSCinemas.

Jared Leto was also mentioned despite that the fate of his role as Joker in the sequel is unconfirmed.

Suicide Squad received poor critical reception with 6/10 on IMDB and 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the hype on the sequel indicates that the bad reviews on its predecessor will not affect the box office performance of Birds of Prey in Malaysia.

Birds of Prey will hit Malaysia cinemas on February 6 next year.
