Jho Low is still on the run, family’s house seized

As of today, almost every Malaysian knows the name Jho Low, a businessman turned fugitive due to his involvement with the 1MDB scandal.

Though Jho Low is believed to be under the protection of China, his role in the multimillion scandal connected to former Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Abdul Razak continues to make local headlines.

In the month of March, the day that Jho Low was given the most headlines was on the 23rd, when his family’s three-story house in Penang was seized by the government.

Jho Low, through a spokesperson on his official website, stated that the family house was built around 20 years ago during Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s previous premiership, and the building has nothing to do with 1MDB.

Jho Low also likened the seizure of the house to an example of Tun Mahathir regime’s “trial by media” and because of that, he would not receive a fair trial in Malaysia.

Other top issues surrounding Jho Low are the missing seizure notice on his family’s house (March 25), and the government’s move to freeze his father’s bank accounts (March 29).

As the conflict goes on, Jho Low continues to accuse Tun Mahathir for ignoring the rule of law and abusing his power by using the attorney general’s office and police force to do his personal biddings.

While Jho Low is still on the run, Najib Razak is facing his first SRC International Sdn Bhd (a former subsidiary of 1MDB) trial today (April 3).
