Make Malaysia Great with TN50?

On October 21, 2016, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib RazaK revealed a new transformation plan for Malaysia known as Transformasi Negara 2050 (TN50). The announcement was made during the tabling of 2017 Budget. Subsequently, an official TN50 Twitter account was created in December 2016. Its username is @myTN50.

To promote the transformation plan, numerous Sesi Dialog TN50 were organized across the nation. The dialog sessions were conducted based on cluster like children, students, youth, civil servants and etc. Plus, they will be conducted from time to time.

TN50 tweets spiked in November 2017 after Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin hosted a Sesi Dialog TN50 which targeted for the youth. A bigger scale event known as Dialog Perdana TN50 was held in January 2018. The dialogue session was attended by Prime Minister Najib, but TN50 Twitter account did not tweet much on it when compared to the session hosted by Khairy.

The network above shows accounts that were mentioned and retweeted by @myTN50. The top accounts mentioned by TN50 can split into two categories, public figure accounts and institution accounts. Politician accounts consist of Khairy Jamaluddin, Mohd Najib Tun Razak, Johan Merican, Najib Masdan, Ariff Abdullah, Maya Nordin and Zahid Hamidi. Institution accounts are Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), Ministry of Youth and Sport (KBS) and Badan Perhubungan Negara Indonesia.

As the general election is getting closer, do the netizens still talking about the transformation plan? Let’s take a look at the Twitter trend of the keyword “TN50” for the past one-week period, from 18 April 2018 to 27 April 2018.

For the past one week, the keyword “TN50” fluctuated. The highest amount of TN50 post occurred on April 18, 2018. It reached 270 posts. It happened because Najib Razak shared a post about TN50 a day before on his Twitter account.

Next, we zoom in further to find out which Twitter account is the one who frequently mentioned TN50. Looking at the networks from various time ranges, Twitter account @umnoonline is the one who mentioned TN50 the most. It is the official account for UMNO. Thus, it is natural for the political party to echo its own initiative.

The Twitter account of Najib Razak is the one which was mentioned the most when it comes to TN50. Today, other BN politicians were not linked with TN50, not even Khairy Jamaluddin who boosted TN50 popularity in Twitter a few months ago.

The netizens have linked TN50 as the brainchild of Najib Razak instead of Barisan Nasional. Since Najib has bad reputation with the 1MDB issue, the netizens will not be fond of TN50. Besides, TN50 Twitter had became less active compared to the past. As the government, Barisan Nasional should promote Transformasi Negara 2050 as a hope for a better Malaysia. But, it seems like they failed to do so on Twitter.
