Maszlee’s next move

It has been about a month since Dr Maszlee Malik resigned as Education Minister on January 3.

Following his resignation, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad took over the portfolio by becoming acting Education Minister.

Previously, after GE-14, Tun Mahathir appointed himself as Education Minister but was criticized by the public for breaking one of Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) promises.

In the PH manifesto, it was stated that the Prime Minister would not be holding other positions in the cabinet apart from the premiership.

Hence, Maszlee was chosen as the Education Minister instead, which lasted for 20 months.

Although Maszlee quit as a minister, he remains as the parliamentary member of Simpang Renggam.

In his resignation speech, Maszlee said he would remain as a PPBM politician and concentrate on serving the people of Simpang Renggam.

Within the party, Maszlee will be contesting for the Simpang Renggam division chief position in the upcoming PPBM leadership election.

The position is currently held by Ahmad Ahem, who would be defending his post in the party election.

Overall, Maszlee did not completely disappear from the media after his resignation as Education Minister.
