The never-ending rumours on cabinet reshuffle

Recently, there was a rumour that Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution will be appointed as Home Minister, replacing Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. However, the source did not mention about Muhyiddin’s.

It was also reported that there will be a portfolio change for the current Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

It was less than a month for another rumour on cabinet reshuffle to surface on the media. At the end of August, there was a rumour which claimed that Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed would be added to the cabinet.

Then, it was reported that Mustapa would either be taking over the Finance Ministry or replace Datuk Darell Leiking as the Minister of International Trade and Industry.

Despite all the rumours, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was still the most mentioned person for the topic ‘Cabinet Reshuffle’, after Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

It was speculated that Anwar might be added to the cabinet if a reshuffle were to happen. However, Mahathir shut that rumour down as currently there is no vacancy in the cabinet.

In return, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail responded to Mahathir’s remark on her husband. She said that there will be vacancy in the cabinet if Mahathir step down.

Nevertheless, the reported changes were just rumours. The Prime Minister said that there might be a cabinet reshuffle, but only changes in portfolios with no additional members.

Regardless, rumours of cabinet reshuffling have been an ongoing discussion on the media.

Earlier in February, it was rumoured that Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali would be appointed as Deputy Prime Minister after the Chinese New Year celebration. But, the rumour turned out to be just that, a rumour.

However, the recent rumours on the cabinet reshuffle had a bigger exposure in media. The Prime Minister himself does not dismiss the possibility of reshuffling the portfolios of the current ministers.
