DOUBLE THE TROUBLE
The COVID-19 pandemic is arguably the most disruptive global event in recent times. It is unprecedented in magnitude and has direct impact on the economy and the quality of life of the general population. Adding to the impact of COVID19 is the restriction to movements that have sent shock waves through the global supply chain and consequently dampened demand. While the move will inevitably take a toll on the economy, it is deemed as necessary to keep the pandemic at bay.

THE ANTICIPATED STIMULUS
With the expected economic downturn due to the Movement Control Order, the Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin announced RM250 billion worth economic stimulus package known as Prihatin Rakyat on March 27.

THE CLOCK IS TICKING
The number of cases to increase worldwide as scientists march on a race to identify the appropriate drugs treatment and to develop an effective vaccine.

MADE IN CHINA
COVID-19 is predicted to do much damage than its predecessor. Having met the criteria of a pandemic, its economic consequences are likely to be compounded by unfavorable conditions beginning with China’s increased economic vulnerability. As the world economy is more dependent on China than ever, its economic disruption will have a domino effects to others.

For the first time in history, Malaysia on March 16, declared that the country will be placed under a nationwide movement restriction order starting from March 18 to March 31, 2020.
Following the surge in the number of positive cases in Malaysia, the order is deemed necessary to help curb the pandemic.

Perikatan Nasional (PN), a coalition formed amidst the 2020 Malaysian political crisis, swiftly gained high exposure on the media as it becomes the current government.
A new Cabinet comprising politicians from PN was announced on March 9. The following days witnessed higher media exposure on PN than usual.
