Environment Minister kept mum on Lynas

Lynas has been an ongoing issue in Malaysia since 2008. Earlier this month, the rare-earth processing plant made headlines when Australia shot down Malaysia’s bid to return Lynas’ waste. This subsequently puts the Ministry of Energy, Technology, Environment and Climate Change of Malaysia (MESTECC) in a bad position.

Previously, Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin came out with an ultimatum requiring Lynas to ship its waste back to Australia before September this year if the rare-earth mining company wanted its licence to be renewed.

This subsequently puts the Environment Minister as the most popular individual to be quoted by the media when it comes to the Lynas issue.

However, Yeo was absent from the influencers list for Lynas, despite being the one who came out with the pre-conditions for the plant’s license renewal. This painted her in a bad light for not playing her part in leading MESTECC to solve the Lynas issue.
