Fahmi Fadzil focus more on social media for his exposure
Fahmi Fadzil was amongst the youth politicians who received attention from the media in the past year alongside – Yeo Bee Yin, Syed Saddiq, Young Syefura and Michelle Ng.
He gained massive recognition especially when he won Lembah Pantai seat defeating UMNO Raja Nong Chik. However, his news exposure starts to decline after GE-14.
The dependency graphs compare the news exposure between Fahmi Fadzil and two other first-term PKR MPs – Batu MP Prabakaran and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi. In 2018, it can be seen that Fahmi’s news exposure starts to decline after the last general election, while Nik Nazmi dominates the mainstream media.
Moving forward to the current news exposure trend (February 2019), the Lembah Pantai MP continues to have a low exposure.
Although he has low exposure in the mainstream media, Fahmi seems to attract quite the attention on social media, indicating a stronger presence.
Looking at Fahmi’s Twitter activity, he seems to has a pretty good amount of feedback. This shows that the public are aware of his existence despite being less prominent in the media.
Additionally, as the MP of Lembah Pantai, Fahmi is focus on tackling issues that are plaguing his constituency.
Looking at his trend in the social media, it looks like Fahmi Fadzil is on the right track as he manage to trigger public interaction and engagement which is deemed crucial in a democratic country like Malaysia. However, in terms of his low news exposure in the mainstream media, the public will not be aware of his effort in doing his job as a MP.
