Jho Low was heavily mentioned in 1MDB trial, remains a fugitive

Datuk Amhari Efendi Nazarrudin has made numerous sensational revelations through his testimony in court. The former aide to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak stood as one of the key witnesses in the 1MDB trial.

Primarily, he testified that fugitive businessman Jho Low had “extraordinary powers” as the latter worked directly with Najib in government-to-government negotiations, internal relations, political arrangements and funding.

According to media intelligence, it is noticeable that the media exposure of ‘Najib-1MDB’ increased on Tuesdays (3rd, 10th and 17th). This was because the of the consecutive public holidays on the first three Mondays in September.

Additionally, the trend for ‘Jho Low-1MDB’ topic followed closely with ‘Najib-1MDB’. This indicated that Jho Low was the top person to be linked with the 1MDB trial along with Najib.

On the other hand, Najib’s wife Datuk Seri Rosmah Mansor was also mentioned in articles regarding the 1MDB trial, but with way lower presence compared to Jho Low.

For example, Najib’s appeared in almost 150 articles on the 4th, and Jho Low was mentioned in about 120 articles. Whereas, Rosmah was only mentioned in less than 10 articles on that day.

Other figures related to the 1MDB scandal such as former 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda, former Finance Ministry treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Irwan Serigar and Najib’s former media adviser Paul Stadlen have low exposure on the media during the ongoing 1MDB trial.
