MIMOS collaborates with Microsoft to set up AI centre in Malaysia

MIMOS Bhd joined forces with powerhouse technology company Microsoft to establish an applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre in Malaysia, coined Centre of AI for Future Industry (CAIFI).

For those not familiar, MIMOS is Malaysia’s national Applied Research and Development Centre. It is a strategic agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) which aims to transform Malaysia’s industry through patentable technology platforms, products, and solutions.

It was also reported that the centre will assist the government in developing advanced policy-making responses and provide recommendations for industry and civil society management. Additionally, MIMOS will supply the tools required to learn about modern technological advances and AI in Malaysia.

The centre also provides workshops and training labs to help upskill entrepreneurs, SMEs, and graduates, to leverage themselves against competitors in this technological era.

Under the supervision of International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking, the establishment aligns with Malaysia’s National Policy on Industry 4.0 policy, to be a digital driven nation. He elaborated how this would accelerate the nation’s shift to Cloud and equip Malaysia’s workforce with AI.

Last week, Darell met up with Microsoft’s key company representatives from United States to expand his trade, including Fortune 500 companies and cloud computing partners to seek opportunities for collaboration.

In the past, Microsoft and MIMOS have collaborated to build Malaysia’s first innovative talent house called Microsoft Innovation Centre in 2008. This partnership is expected to transition smoothly to support the government’s initiative.
