Nazri no longer BN secretary-general, but will support Anwar as PM
On March 8, UMNO acting president Mohamad Hasan revealed that Nazri Aziz is no longer BN secretary-general, instead the post will be filled by Tengku Adnan Mansor. The decision was made after MCA and MIC protest over Nazri’s racial remark.
Specifically, Mohamd Hasan said that Nazri appointment as BN secretary-general has never been officially formalised. Despite that, an article was published on BN official portal to announce that Nazri was appointed as the new secretary-general of BN. The publishing date of the article is 27 October 2018.
Nevertheless, Nazri accepted his fate of no longer being the coalition secretary-general. But he came out with another shocking statement.
Nazri stated that he will support Anwar Ibrahim as the next Prime Minister. He revealed that his current plan is to focus on getting as many UMNO MPs as possible to support Anwar. The reason behind his support is that he made a deal with Anwar last year, UMNO will support Anwar in return of not dissolving the party.
His claim sounds fishy as Anwar wouldn’t have the power to dissolve UMNO as he wishes. Only Registrar of Societies (RoS) has the power to do so.
Regardless, this is not the first time for Nazri to voice out his support towards Anwar. Last year in October, he said that he is a hardcore supporter of Anwar and they have been friends for a long time. The statement was made a week after Anwar won Port Dickson by-election.
The question here is why would Anwar need UMNO’s support to be the next Prime Minister if he can get the support from Pakatan Harapan?
