Sarawak PKR showcased its infighting despite the state election is just around the corner

Sarawak will be having its state election in 2021. However, the issue of Sarawak Pilihan Raya Negeri (PRN) had started to surface in the media due to the recent internal conflict in PKR.

It was reported that 18 out of the 31 PKR division chiefs in Sarawak want its PKR state chairman, Baru Bian to be ousted.

On the contrary, Sarawak PKR secretary Vernon Kedit refuted the claim, stating that there are 19 division chiefs who are behind Baru.

Baru received divisive support for cancelling the PKR state convention in Miri, this was to protest the move to stop PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali from opening the upcoming party’s youth congress in Melaka.

For the past month, the issue of ‘PKR Convention’ made headlines under the topic ‘Sarawak PRN’. It was reported that the divide within PKR will affect the party’s standing in the upcoming Sarawak PRN.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has denied any infighting, saying “there are no such fights within PKR as many have claimed”. He reaffirmed that his party is strong.

However, Baru was nowhere to be seen when the PKR state convention was held at Miri on November 23.

Consequently, the alleged strained relationship between PKR’s No.1 and No. 2 is more believable than Anwar’s statements in denying the internal conflict in PKR.
