Sole UMNO parliamentary representative in Sabah to be charged on May 3

Bung Moktar Radin and his wife are expected to be charged for graft on May 3. This is not good news for Sabah UMNO as he is the sole parliamentary representative for the party state branch, holding the parliamentary seat of Kinabatangan.

Previously, Sabah UMNO won seven MP seats in the state. The first to leave the party was Anifah Aman (Kimanis). He left the party back in September 2018.

Then, in December 2018, Sabah UMNO witnessed a mass exodus. Another five MPs left the party. They were Abd Rahim Bakri (Kudat), Azizah Mohd Dun (Beaufort), Yamani Hafez Musa (Sipitang), Ronald Kiandee (Beluran) and Zakaria Mohd Edris (Libaran).

Four out of the five MPs later joined Bersatu except for Yamani Hafez Musa, who is the son of former Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.

If Bung Moktar were to be found guilty, Malaysians can expect another by-election in Sabah. Then, if UMNO could not retain the seat, will it be the end of the party’s Sabah chapter?
