Is Hadi Awang’s influence in PAS declining?

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has always been the face of the party. From the influencers list for the past three months, he was leading with a total of 3,179 statements. However, if we focused only on the past one-month duration, the PAS president has become less active.

Whereas, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the top influencer for the topic of “PAS”. Besides, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan gave almost the same number of statements when compared to Hadi Awang. This also shows that Takiyuddin has been active in the media lately.

This change may have sprouted from the recent supposed ‘marriage’ between UMNO and PAS. Hadi Awang said that he does not endorse the union of the two parties. He claimed the merger is ‘incestuous’, and should be viewed more like ‘siblings’, possibly not blessing the ‘marriage’ of the parties.

As shown in the top issues, the merging of the two parties has been a hot topic lately, which drove most of the media’s attention to them.

Furthermore, Takiyuddin recently pledged his support for the Prime Minister if there was a vote of no confidence, plus he was brought into question by the MACC for the RM90 million scandal. These may be the reason behind the increase in Takiyuddin’s media exposure.

Interestingly, Hadi Awang is missing from the meeting for the UMNO – PAS merge, instead PAS was represented by its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

But Hadi Awang may have had his hands full on the out-of-court settlement case with Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown, as it is still an ongoing issue.
