Lim Guan Eng at The Center Stage

The DAP congress brought Lim Guan Eng to the center of attention amongst all opposition politicians.

In one month period starting from 27 February to 29 March, Lim Guan Eng has been the trending phrase of Lim Guan Eng topic, followed by Setiausaha Agung DAP as well as Gobind Singh Deo.

The rise of the phrase Lim Guan Eng was driven by the internal opposition voice from Dr Tan Seng Giaw. The Veteran DAP member has been urging Lim Guan Eng to step down from his current position to ensure that the new Central Executive Committee (CEC) members are free from any baggage.

The line graph above shows the topic comparison of opposition leaders in March between Anwar Ibrahim, Mahathir Mohamad, Syed Saddiq, Lim Kit Siang, Shafie Apdal and Lim Guan Eng.

It is seen that throughout the period, Lim Guan Eng has the highest number of exposures for topic comparison of opposition leaders, especially from 19 to 20 March, followed by Anwar Ibrahim, the second highest exposure of the opposition leader topics from 15 to 17 March.

In terms of share of voice of the opposition leader, it is shown that the media gives more exposure consistently to Anwar Ibrahim for the past 12 months with 36.70 per cent, as compared to Lim Guan Eng who carries 17.25 per cent of share of voice.

The gap in the numbers of share of voice between these two opposition leaders may be due to the majority concerns coming from the Malay community into Anwar Ibrahim’s news throughout the past 12 months.
