Mega projects in Kedah: A waste of money?

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has announced seven mega projects to develop Kedah with a budget of RM3 billion.

The seven projects approved are Kulim International Airport (KXP), Sidam Manufacturing Industry and Logistics Hub, two phases of the Northern Corridor highway, the Alor Setar Digital Library, Gurun Petrochemical Industrial Park, and the Kasih Ibu Darul Aman (KIDA) programme.

Responding to the announcement, netizens are urging the government to focus on fixing the current water supply crisis situation, instead of investing money on “unneeded” projects.

Plus, the government was accused of being interested only in generating economic profit rather than solving the ongoing issues that Kedahans are facing.

While Azmin remains optimistic that the new RM1.6 billion Kulim International Airport will draw foreign investors into the state, many still think that it is a waste of money.

Very few people are positive that building a third airport in Kedah is the right move. What should the government do with the RM1.6 billion instead?
