One of Sultan Ibrahim’s latest statements is about the land in Bukit Chagar. It was reported that the ownership of the land will be transferred to the federal government for the development of Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS).

The Johor Sultan was shocked by the report. However, he said that he is willing to give the land for free with the condition that RTS project resumes immediately. The rail link project was delayed along with Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR). The delays were made to explore the possibilities of reducing the cost for both projects.

The RTS will be a cross-border rapid transit system, connecting Johor to Singapore, with stations located in Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North respectively.

The project was officially announced on 16 January 2018 by then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Initially, the 4.2km rail link was set to be completed in 2024.
