The argument between Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Crown prince of Johor Tunku Ismail Idris has been going on for weeks.
As most of the issues debated are about royalty, their arguments have taken over half of the top issues in “Sultan Ibrahim of Johor” topic.
Their arguments included the Rome Statute ratification, appointment of Johor Menteri Besar, appointment of Johor EXCO and others.
Tun Mahathir is the top influencer for the topic of “Sultan Ibrahim”. For the past month, the Prime Minister has made 1,502 statements in total. On the other hand, the Sultan himself only made 242 statements, while the Crown Prince gave 201 statements.
One of Sultan Ibrahim’s latest statements is about the land in Bukit Chagar. It was reported that the ownership of the land will be transferred to the federal government for the development of Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS).
The Johor Sultan was shocked by the report. However, he said that he is willing to give the land for free with the condition that RTS project resumes immediately. The rail link project was delayed along with Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR). The delays were made to explore the possibilities of reducing the cost for both projects.
The RTS will be a cross-border rapid transit system, connecting Johor to Singapore, with stations located in Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North respectively.
The project was officially announced on 16 January 2018 by then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. Initially, the 4.2km rail link was set to be completed in 2024.
