No additional fee for toll congestion charge

Prime Minister Mahathir revealed that the government is planning to acquire 4 highways located in the Klang Valley. They are LDP, SPRINT Highway, KESAS Highway, and SMART Tunnel. Then, up to a 30% discount will be impose to those tolls during the off-peak hour, plus free pass in the midnight. Additionally, a congestion charge will be implemented to reduce the traffic congestion during the rush hour.

Following, Najib Razak attacked the initiative, stating that it will not benefit the people as they will have to wait for hours after work in order to not paying the toll.

Nevertheless, he congestion charge is equals to the current toll rate. This means that people will receives discount and free pass, but no additional fee will be added during the rush hour. So, the people are not actually losing in this deal.

On the other hand, Wee Ka Siong also attacked the plan, saying that it is just a rebrand as the people still need to pay tolls. Whereas in the Harapan Manifesto, the coalition pledged to abolish toll nationwide in their manifesto.

However, it is written that they will abolish tolls through stages. Therefore, Pakatan Harapan will have the duration until 2023 to fulfill their promise. Since the proposed toll initiative will reduce the fee, it will benefit the people rather than doing them harm.
