High Traction for EMCO

The Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) has gained the media attention after most parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur (KL) was announced to be under EMCO on July 1st.

The news exposure soared on the day of the announcement and have been consistent throughout early July, but only to subside recently.

According to Ismail Sabri, the Deputy Prime Minister, the decision of EMCO is made after a discussion involving a risk assessment by the Health Ministry following the high number of Covid-19 cases reported.

Despite of the implementation, the news title sentiment of the topic on the other hand, are mostly dominated by positive and neutral sentiments since the announcement.

However, it is most likely that the media attention towards EMCO is also due to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI)’s announcement that some sectors are still operating.

Looking at the issues relating to the MITI topic, EMCO is among the top issues that the media focus alongside the issues regarding the ministry.

Even within the trending phrases of the MITI topic, it is visible that the media have been relating EMCO and the topic within their news.
