“Superman” Hew made CEO of Malaysia-China Business Council: Is it a political appointment?

Former DAP member Hew Kuan Yew or widely known as “Superman” Hew was appointed as the CEO of Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC). MCBC is a GLC focusing on strengthening the ties between the two nations.

In the past, Hew was considered as a controversial politician due to his unfiltered speech. The tipping point that ended his political career was when he made the statement, “The South China Sea belongs to China. Don’t oppose China just because you’re anti-communist”.

As an aftermath, he received criticisms from not only politicians but also the public. Hence, he quits DAP in July 2016, saying that he resigned to stop his negative statement from damaging the party.

However, his activity back in 2018 shows that he did not quit DAP for good. He is active in the media during the campaigning period for GE-14.

Unsurprisingly, he endorsed DAP and Pakatan Harapan during the campaigning season. Again, he received critics from BN and their supporters for his insensitive speeches.

This also shows that he may not be a DAP member officially, but he still represents DAP in the eyes of the people.
