Najib Razak Pushing for MCO3.0

Former Prime Minister Najib Razak has been dominating Ministry of International Trade and Industry’s (MITI) narration following the speculations of a stringent lockdown if Covid-19 infections continues to spike after 4th February.

Looking at the MITI topic, Najib Razak led the influencers list from the 22nd to 24th January when the EU-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Eurocham Malaysia) leaked letter hit the news.

However, Eurocham has clarified that the meeting with MITI was solely to raise awareness on how businesses can play a role in flattening the Covid-19 curve and denied that the government warned them about the lockdown.

Nonetheless, Najib Razak rose to the top of the list after he urged the government to immediately impose the strict lockdown instead of waiting for MCO 2.0 to end, considering the soaring workplace clusters.

This gives a bad light to MITI as Najib Razak and Eurocham chief executive Sven Schneider who leaked the letter are leading the influencer list, as opposed to the past month where MITI Minister Azmin Ali controlled the narration.

Furthermore, the MCO3.0 matter appeared as one of the top issues linked to Najib Razak during the 22nd to 24th January, apart from his court cases.

In contrast, Azmin Ali’s news exposure in January has been declining and he has remained silent during the 22nd to 24th when controversy happened surrounding MITI.

Meanwhile, negative news sentiments surged from the 22nd to 24th January after the leaked letter went viral.
