The Extension of MOU

Much of the media’s focus on the topic of the MOU is more inclined on Ismail Sabri Yaakob, following his agreement with opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim through a memorandum.

The Opposition leader stated that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will uphold its political agreement with Ismail Sabri until July 31 and is open to an extension beyond the expiry date.

Two analysts have alleged that Pakatan Harapan is trying to buy time with its continued backing for the memorandum of understanding (MoU) it signed with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

As the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Anwar Ibrahim and Ismail Sabri as a PH – Ismail Sabri’s government, they became among the top influencers of this topic during the stated period.

Anwar claimed the coalition is ready to have discussions on extending the memorandum of understanding (MoU), and reminded Umno that the agreement was between PH and Ismail’s government, and not with Umno.

Ismail Sabri however, would abide by the Umno Supreme Council to not extend the MoU, in which will expire in 31 July.

The media has also covered that the renewal of the MoU will not have any effect on GE15 other than aimed at reviving the economy, and UMNO’s intervention will only delay the real purpose of this memorandum.
